Buccaneer State Park Closed

JACKSON - Due to damages from Hurricane Katrina, Buccaneer State Park in Waveland is closed until further notice, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.

"The park suffered massive damages from both storm surge and wind," State Parks Director Bill Pope said. "We are not sure when the park will reopen."

Buccaneer State Park housed a water park facility along with camping pads, cabins, and other amenities. The extent of the damage and the cost of cleanup are yet to be determined, however, Department officials assure the public that the park will reopen.
