Sessions Woods Conservation Education Center to Hold Educational Program Series

The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announces four educational programs to be held at the Sessions Woods Conservation Education Center in Burlington.

Tuesday, September 20, 2005 – 7:00 p.m. – "Of Sassafras and Shadblow: Celebrating Our Native Trees and Shrubs"

This multi-media program is photographer Edith ("Duffy") Royce Schade’s view of the beauty, folklore, and many uses of a variety of tress and bushes that are native to Connecticut. Duffy is a Wildlife Division Master Wildlife Conservationist and has offered to provide "an armchair exploration" of forest-covered hills, brilliant autumn foliage, and snow frosted pines at the Session Woods Conservation Education Center. This special treat is a "must see" for all who love Connecticut’s landscape.

Sunday, September 25, 2005 – 1:00-3:00 p.m. – "Halloween in September"

Children and their families are welcome to attend this very fun open house, hosted annually by the Wildlife Division and Friends of Sessions Woods. There will be crafts, activities, and special presentations on Halloween critters. Come meet a snake, big brown bat, and various Connecticut spiders. This is the opportunity to dispel some of the myths associated with creepy crawlies! Costumes are encouraged! Fun time for all!

Saturday, October 1, 2005 – 1:00 p.m. – "Surveying for Birds"

Join Wildlife Division technicians for an introduction to some of the bird surveys conducted by the Wildlife Division. T here will be a short slide show indoors, followed by an outdoor exercise to view mist-netting techniques.

Tuesday, November 8, 2005 – 4:00 p.m. – "Children’s Program: Connecticut’s Wild Turkeys"

Come to Sessions Woods and learn the story behind Connecticut’s wild turkey population. This is an indoor program with a short slide presentation and activity. Meet in the new classroom area located in the Sessions Woods Conservation Education Center.
