Upland Game Bird Regulations Now Available
A sure sign that upland game bird hunting seasons are just around the corner
is the recent arrival of regulations brochures at sporting goods stores and
Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW offices) for the hunts.
Craig Mortimore, NDOW staff biologist, said chukar and quail hunting seasons
will open on Saturday, Oct. 8, in most areas of the state. Otherwise, there
are few changes in the regulations from last year.
“Again this year, we are asking hunters to remove a wing from each sage
grouse taken and put it into one of the wing barrels that we will have in
the major hunting areas or drop it off at any NDOW office. The information
that we receive from these wings is important for a long-term study that
we’ve been doing of the state’s sage grouse populations,” Mortimore said.
He also asked that hunters who harvest mountain quail call any NDOW office
to report the date, location and number of birds taken. This information
also is important for ongoing studies being done by biologists.
As with last year, hunters need to have upland game bird stamps when
pursuing chukar, quail, Hungarian partridge, snowcock, pheasant and sage,
blue and ruffed grouse. The stamps are not needed for hunting dove, crow and
rabbit.
Hunting licenses, upland game bird stamps and state waterfowl stamps can be
purchased at NDOW offices and most sporting goods stores and bait and tackle
shops.
