Hunters reminded to review regulations (2005-09-06)
The 2005 Hunting and Trapping Regulations Handbook and the 2005 Waterfowl
Supplement are now available wherever hunting and angling licenses are sold.
Hunters are reminded to check both regulations books before taking to the
field this fall. Small game and archery deer seasons begin Sept. 17. The
duck season opens Oct. 1.
"Hunters will notice new regulations affecting deer, pheasant, turkey and
waterfowl hunting to name a few," said Mike DonCarlos, DNR wildlife program
manager. "We strongly encourage hunters to familiarize themselves with all
the new regulations before the seasons begin."
In the 2005 Waterfowl Supplement, hunters can learn what they can do to save
wetlands and how becoming a better shot saves ducks.
The book also contains illustrations of Minnesota's waterfowl and full-sized
depictions of each species' bill for positive identification.
Other notes on this year's regulations books include:
- The fold-out deer map, traditionally bound into the center of the book, is
available separately this year.
- Afton and Lake Louise state parks are incorrectly included in a list of
special muzzleloader hunt permit areas on page 91.
- The address for Lac qui Parle Wildlife Management Area is incorrectly
listed on page 111. It should be 14047 20th Street Northwest, Watson, MN
56295.
- Firearms and archery deer and bear are closed from Oct. 1 through Dec. 1
in the Ocheda Refuge in Nobles County. The refuge information in the table
on page 133 is incorrect.
- Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge is incorrectly listed on page 142.
The refuge is open to hunting.
- Crow Wing on County's prohibition on permanent tree stands on county lands
should have been listed on page 146.
- Season dates for the Fox Lake Refuge in Martin County are incorrectly
listed on page 25 of the 2005 Waterfowl Supplement. The refuge is open Oct.
1-3 and Dec. 17-19.
