DNR-TPT TV collaboration launches 'Touch of the Wild' (2005-08-30)

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is expanding its communications and educational outreach efforts with the addition of "Touch of the Wild" TV, a half-hour series produced in collaboration with Twin Cities Public Television.

"Public television is a great way to touch on issues directly with people who care about outdoor activities and natural resources in Minnesota," said Executive Producer and DNR Communications Director Mark LaBarbera, who co-hosts the show with former Almanac host Jan Smaby.

"Viewers can get straight, in-depth answers from elected officials, the DNR commissioners, DNR directors and conservation leaders on natural resources issues that touch everyone's lives here in Minnesota," LaBarbera said.

Shows will air Saturdays during prime time at 9 p.m. on Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24.

"Touch of the Wild" shows feature a combination of in-studio guests and informative reports with action footage afield from DNR video producer Jason Ziemer.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty will be a guest on the Sept. 24 show, originally produced by the Outdoor Heritage Education Center as the "Touch of the Wild" pilot episode.

For more information and partnership opportunities, contact LaBarbera at mark.labarbera@dnr.state.mn.us.
