LINCOLN, Neb. -- Volunteer naturalist Ruth Green will again host a series of bird banding workshops this fall and winter at the Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium, according to Aquarium Director Tony Korth.

Korth said during the workshops Green captures and releases many of Nebraskas songbird species while teaching workshop participants about them. In addition to up-close lessons on field identification, participants will learn about the birds migration patterns and some history of each species.

The workshops are free and designed for both children and adults. Groups such as scout troops that plan to attend a workshop should call the aquarium at 402-332-3901 for scheduling.

The bird banding workshops will be from 9 a.m. until noon on the following Saturdays: September 3, October 8, November 5, December 3, January 7, February 4, March 4 and April 1.

The Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium is located in Schramm Park, south of Gretna on Highway 31.
