OUTDOORS-WOMAN WORKSHOP IN OCALA HAS VACANCIES August 17, 2005 The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) still has openings for women who want to spend a weekend learning a variety of outdoor activities in Ocala on Sept. 9-11. The FWC invites women, 18 and older, to attend the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) workshop to improve their outdoor skills and enjoy a few recreational activities. In four, three-and-one-half-hour sessions, the workshop teaches skills associated with hunting, fishing and other forms of outdoor recreation, at all levels of physical activity. “The most popular classes participants sign up to take, year-in and year-out are the Primitive Chef, Canoeing/Kayaking Basics, Basic Wilderness Survival Skills, and Introduction to Handgun Shooting and Hunting,” BOW state coordinator, Lynne Hawk, said. The BOW Program offers a fun and supportive atmosphere for participants to experiment and enjoy the camaraderie of others who want to learn about Florida’s great outdoors. Although it is designed with women in mind, the workshop is open to anyone who wants to learn in a comfortable, non-threatening, non-competitive, hands-on atmosphere. The program’s instructors strive to make campers feel at ease. The workshop will take place at the Ocala Conservation Center/Camp in the Ocala National Forest. Sessions will begin Friday at 11 a.m. and end Sunday with lunch. The cost for the 3-day workshop is $150, and there are a limited number of partial scholarships available for low-income participants, single parents and college students. The workshop is restricted to 100 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information about the BOW workshop and registration, visit the FWC’s Web site at MyFWC.com/BOW or call (561) 625-5126.
