Wildlife Agency Donates Communications Equipment
JACKSON - The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWF&P)
donated some 1,000 items related to radio communications yesterday during a
press conference at its Jackson Headquarters.
The cache of items, which includes mobile vehicle radios, handheld radios,
repeaters, base stations, and antennas, will be distributed among four
agencies.
The four agencies receiving the items are the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP),
the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Mississippi Department of Human
Services, and the Jones County Sheriff's Office.
The MDWF&P switched over to a satellite communications system last year and
has a surplus of radio equipment as a result.
"In these times of budget constraints throughout state government, we feel
fortunate to be able to find homes for these radio systems," Assistant Chief
of Enforcement Steve Adcock said. "By working with other agencies on
projects such as this, we are able to save taxpayers a great deal of money."
"A full radio system costs about $4,000 for each car," MHP Lt. Col. Donnell
Berry said.
"MHP will be getting the bulk of the equipment after the other agencies take
what they need," Adcock said.
