IDNR Invites the Public to Enjoy The Great Outdoors Conservation World a Major Attraction at DuQuoin State Fair

DUQUOIN, ILL. - Conservation Village at the DuQuoin State Fair, hosted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, will have two areas at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds, Saturday, August 27 through Monday, September 5.

“We are very excited to be part of the DuQuoin State Fair again this year and we’re looking forward to all of the fun and activities,” said IDNR Director Joel Brunsvold. “I hope families will spend some of their time at the fair visiting both of our locations on the fairgrounds.”

Information tents will be located in the center of the fair between Expo Drive and Lake Lane next to the free entertainment area. Conservation Village visitors will be able to find out everything they need to know concerning natural resources and IDNR programs in the information tents. Knowledgeable IDNR employees will be on hand with exhibits and information. They will answer questions about wildlife, fisheries, forestry, state parks, outdoor recreation, restoration ecology, mines and minerals and other programs.

Fair visitors should look for the free 3-D Youth Archery tent, which will be open every weekday of the DuQuoin fair from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on the weekends and Labor Day from noon - 8 p.m. Visitors can talk with Conservation Police Officers about hunting, fishing and boating rules and regulations, walk through a taxidermy trailer or visit the Wood Mizer tent. Deer enthusiasts will also be able to see a lot of big bucks on display. Follow the paths from Expo Drive or Main Street to enter Conservation Village to visit the great outdoors.

Conservation Village on the Lake is located between RV World and the Expo Building (Just walk north toward the fairgrounds lake). The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Urban Fishing Program is located on the lake and will conduct kids casting clinics each weekday between 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. and on the weekends and Labor Day from noon - 7 p.m. Adults and children can practice their casting techniques and view many fish displays.

The popular Retriever Dog Demonstrations presented by the Gun Creek Hunting Retriever Club will be back performing each weekend day and Labor Day from noon - 8 p.m. on the fairgrounds lake.

IDNR is also pleased to welcome professional angler Chad Morgenthaler to Conservation Village on the Lake this year. Be sure and stop by to visit him for an autograph and photo or attend one of his free seminars Saturday, September 3 from 3 p.m.-7 p.m.

“Take time to explore Conservation Village in both locations on the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds this year,” Director Brunsvold said. “You will be glad you did.”
