Fish And Game Seeks Help Solving Waste of Elk & Deer

MOSCOW - - The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking information concerning the shooting and wasting of a bull elk and two white-tailed bucks near Moscow.      

A four-point bull elk was thought to have been killed on August 1st or 2nd, the beginning of the antlerless-only elk hunt of the Palouse Zone. The entire carcass was left to waste and was found in a grain field 200 yards north of the Southwick-Cavendish Highway between Cuddy and Freeman Creek roads.   

In a separate incident around the same time period, two white-tailed buck deer were also wasted and found in a field near Tensed, ID, one mile east of the Idaho-Washington border. Both deer are thought to have been shot from the Pigeon Hollow road east of Farmington, WA. Both carcasses were wasted, only the antlers from one buck were taken.         

"What a waste," said Senior Conservation Officer Barry Cummings of Deary. "We need the citizen's help in solving these types of crimes."   

Anyone observing hunters in these areas or with information about these crimes are encouraged to contact the Fish and Game office in Lewiston at 208-799-5010, or the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 1-800-632-5999.

Callers will remain anonymous, and cash rewards are available if the information is sufficient for a citation or a warrant to be issued. A conviction is not necessary.
