DOW Announces First Annual Habitat Collector Stamp Art Contest

The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) is conducting a contest to select the art that will be used in the production of the 2006 Colorado Wildlife Habitat Collector Stamp and limited art prints.

The Colorado Wildlife Habitat Stamp Program was created through state legislation to generate funds for projects that benefit wildlife habitat and provide additional public access. Priority habitats for the program are big game winter range and migration corridors. Beginning January 1, 2006 people who hunt and fish in Colorado will be charged a habitat stamp fee of $5 on each of the first two hunting and/or fishing licenses they purchase for a maximum of $10 per year. Persons who recreate on State Wildlife Areas will also be required to pay the $10 habitat stamp fee and issued a receipt. Each year a limited number of collector gum-backed stamps and art prints will be produced to commemorate the program.

The DOW is giving artists the opportunity to have their work displayed on the first Colorado Wildlife Habitat Collector Stamp and art print. Entries for the 2006 stamp must depict native wildlife species associated with sagebrush habitats. The art work must be 13 inches high and 18 inches wide. It must be in a full color medium. No photos, sculptures or carvings will be accepted. All entries must be accompanied by a $50 entry fee payable to the DOW. The entry deadline is October 31, 2005.

A committee formed by the DOW will evaluate the entries and select a winner who will receive a cash prize of $2,500.
