BLM Closure at Clear Creek Management Area Impacts Hunters

Contact:

Craig Stowers, Wildlife Programs Branch, (916) 445-3553

The temporary closure of the Clear Creek Management Area (CCMA) in southern San Benito County and western Fresno County means "A zone" deer hunters will not be able to hunt this portion of the CCMA during the 2005 general season (Aug. 13 through Sept. 25). The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recently announced that 30,000 acres of public lands within the CCMA will be closed to all public uses in response to concerns and data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) about exposure to naturally occurring asbestos. This closure is to remain in effect until Oct. 15.

Hunters affected by this closure have the option to request a refund or tag exchange. Refunds and exchange requests must be made prior to the opening of the season. Exchange tags are only available for those zones/hunts with tags remaining; a current list of remaining tags can be viewed at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/biggame/deertagsavailable.html.

Contact the Department of Fish and Game’s License and Revenue Branch at (916) 227-2245 for more information on the refund/exchange process.
