FWP Seeks Comment on Lolo Creek Stream Enhancement Project
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is seeking public comment on a
proposed stream enhancement project on public land along approximately 1,000
feet of Lolo Creek, 14 miles west of the town of Lolo.
The project is part of an effort to improve habitat that has been impacted
from past stream straightening, habitat removal, and vegetation loss along
the stream. Under the proposal, several natural tree structures, woody
debris piles, and one rock structure will be placed in the stream and along
the banks. Shrubs and trees will be planted near the creek to enhance the
streamside area.
The proposed project, a cooperative effort between FWP, Lolo National
Forest, and Montana Trout, is scheduled for August 15 through September 1,
2005.
To request a copy of the environmental assessment (EA) for the project,
contact the Missoula FWP fisheries office at 406-542-5506, or follow the
link via news/public notices on FWP’s web site: fwp.mt.gov. Public comment
will be accepted until August 12, 2005 and may be mailed to: Ladd Knotek,
MT FWP, 3201 Spurgin Road, Missoula, MT 59804, or emailed to lknotek@mt.gov.
