FWP Seeks Comment On Off-Highway Vehicle Projects
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking public comment on 14 grant
applications for off-highway vehicle projects. Off-highway vehicles (OHVs)
typically include off-highway motorcycles (dirt bikes) and all-terrain
vehicles (ATVs).
Montana’s OHV Program, administered by FWP, will provide $200,000 in grants
in 2006 to successful applicants including cities, counties, state, federal
agencies and private associations. Projects requested exceeded $326,000
for the 2006 grant cycle.
The grant program is funded by state gas tax money collected on gas used
off-road in OHVs and registration fees paid for OHV’s.
OHV grant funds can be used maintain and rehabilitate agency-recognized OHV
trails, noxious weed control, public awareness and safety education.
The grant applications are available for review at the FWP Headquarters in
Helena, or for project applications in a specific geographical area see the
nearest FWP regional office.
