CATCHES OF THE WEEK
Ute Lake: Del C. and son of Hobbs caught 18 white bass in a
four hour period. The fish ranged in size from 1 1/2; to 2 pounds. Cochiti
Lake: Jack R. of Albuquerque caught a 2.5 pound smallmouth bass. He was
using a small spinner bait.

This fishing report has been generated from the best information available
from officers and anglers.
Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, however, as
stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.
NORTHEAST AREA
CANJILON LAKES: Fair-to-good trout fishing was reported by anglers using a
variety of power baits. A few trout were also taken on spinners, spoons and
prop flies.
CHARETTE LAKES: Trout fishing was reported as very good this past week by
anglers using a variety of baits including corn, worms, salmon eggs and
power bait. Anglers fishing early and late in the day also did well using
Pistol Petes, Joe’s flies and green wooly worms. Most of the trout taken
were in the 10-to-15 inch class.
CIMARRON RIVER: Water flow below Eagle Nest Lake as of Monday was 32cfs.
Trout fishing was reported as fair by anglers using humpys, stimulators,
bead head nymphs and San Juan worms.
CIMARRON GRAVEL PIT LAKES: Trout fishing was slow.
CLAYTON LAKE: Fishing was generally slow for all species. A few catfish were
taken on worms and liver.
COCHITI LAKE: Fishing was good for anglers using minnows. They caught
several bluegill, white bass and crappie along with a few walleye,
smallmouth bass and catfish. Several fish were also taken on small jigs
including a four pound walleye.
CONCHAS LAKE: Bluegills were still providing the best action this past week.
Worms, poppers and small jigs were the best baits. Fishing for catfish was
good for anglers using shrimp, cut bait, hot dogs, stink bait and night
crawlers. There were quite a number of catfish taken on trotlines as well as
rod and reel. Fishing for walleye was fair for anglers trolling
spinner/night crawler combinations in the early morning hours and were taken
at depths of 15-to-21 feet. Fishing for smallmouth bass was fair for anglers
using curly tail grubs, tubes and top water lures.
COYOTE CREEK: Trout fishing was rated as fair for anglers using salmon eggs
and small flies. The best reports came from anglers fishing the late evening
hours. The water is low and clear.
EAGLE NEST LAKE: Fishing from the bank and from anchored boats was rated as
slow for trout but good for perch for anglers using worms. Kokanee fishing
was fair with most of the fish being taken at depths of 21-to-28 feet.
Anglers did best using gold colored spinners and spoons tipped with corn.
LAKE MALOYA/ LAKE ALICE At Lake Maloya, trout fishing was fair-to-good for
anglers using
orange and rainbow colored power baits. Anglers using flies did best in the
evening hours while fishing along the dam.
MCALLISTER LAKE: Trout fishing was reported as slow-to-fair for anglers
using power bait, prop flies, wooly buggers and salmon eggs.
MORPHY LAKE: Trout fishing was reported as good this past week especially
for anglers using white power bait and marshmallows. Due to road
construction, access to the lake is limited to weekends between the hours of
8a.m. on Friday and 8p.m. on Sunday.
PECOS RIVER: As of Monday morning, water flow was 17cfs near the town of
Pecos. Fishing was reported as very good for anglers using royal wulffs, elk
hair caddis, parachute adams, small copper john barrs, spinners, and salmon
eggs for trout. The best reports have come from anglers fishing the early
morning and late evening hours.
RED RIVER: Water flow near Questa was 43cfs as of Monday. Trout fishing was
fair-to-good for anglers using night crawlers, bead head nymphs, salmon
eggs, gold spinners and San Juan worms.
RIO GRANDE: As of Monday, water flow near the Taos Junction Bridge was
530cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
SANTA CRUZ: Trout fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using power bait,
spinners and salmon eggs.
SHUREE PONDS: Trout fishing was reported as fair by anglers using spoons,
prop flies, hoppers and bead head wooly buggers.
SPRINGER LAKE: Fishing for catfish was reported as good this past week as
several anglers reported catching good size fish while using cut bait and
night crawlers. We had no reports on other species.
STORRIE LAKE: Fishing was slow.
STUBBLEFIELD: We had no reports from anglers again this week.
UTE LAKE: The Ute Lake marina has closed temporarily but the boat ramps are
open and in good condition. Fishing was reported as very good by some
anglers fishing for white bass. Most of the fish were taken on crank baits,
jigs and minnows. The best action was reported by anglers fishing the mouths
of coves. Fishing was fair for anglers using deep running crank baits for
walleye. There was also some good night time action for anglers using
minnows under floating lights. A few black bass were taken on senkos, grubs,
tubes and crank baits. We had no reports on other species.
NORTHWEST AREA
ABIQUIU LAKE: Walleye fishing was reported as slow-to-fair by anglers using
deep running crank baits, spinner/worm combinations and jig/grub and worm
combos. Most of the fish were taken at depths of 15-to-35 feet. Fishing was
fair using liver, shrimp, night crawlers and hot dog pieces for catfish. The
best reports came from anglers fishing the Canones Creek area and near the
mouth of the Chama. We had no reports on other species.
BLUEWATER LAKE: Daytime fishing for trout and catfish was reported as slow
while some anglers did well fishing at night. They were using shrimp and hot
dogs and fishing the Thoreau side of the lake.
BURNS CANYON LAKE: Fishing was reported as fair by anglers using
spoons, prop flies and power bait for trout.
CHAMA RIVER: Water flow below El Vado Lake on Monday morning was 312cfs and
439cfs below Abiquiu. Fishing below El Vado was rated as good using
streamers, wooly buggers, night crawlers and power bait for browns and
rainbows. We had no reports from below Abiquiu.
EL VADO LAKE: Trout fishing was reported as fair from boats but
slow from the bank. The best reports came from anglers trolling the upper
end of the lake and using spinners and spoons tipped with corn and worms.
FENTON LAKE: Fishing was slow.
HERON LAKE: Kokanee fishing was a bit slow this past week but some anglers
managed to catch their limit. They were using double whammies and orange Z
Rays tipped with corn and trolling at depths of 35-to-40 feet. Anglers
trolling for kokanee also picked up a few small lake trout. A few rainbows
were taken by anglers fishing from the bank and using power bait.
JEMEZ WATERS: As of Monday, water flow on the Jemez River near Jemez Springs
was 16cfs. Fishing on the San Antonio, Rio Guadalupe and the East Fork was
rated as fair-to-good by anglers using stimulators, hoppers, elk hair caddis
and small bead head nymphs for trout.
MANZANO LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
NAVAJO LAKE: Kokanee provided the best action for anglers fishing here this
past week. They were working the Francis Canyon area and trolling at depths
of 35-to-50 feet. Fishing for small black bass was fair using tubes, senkos
and crank baits. Fishing was fair using worms under a bobber for bluegills.
We had no reports on other species.
RAMAH LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
SAN GREGORIO: Fishing is very slow.
SAN JUAN: Water flow below Navajo Dam on Monday morning was 495cfs. Trout
fishing in the Quality Water section was reported as very good by anglers
using UFOs, emergers, small parachute adams, sparkle worms, RS2s, bead head
pheasant tails, bead head wooly buggers and San Juan worms. Through the bait
waters, anglers did well with spinners, jerk baits, salmon eggs, garlic
cheese and night crawlers.
SEVEN SPRINGS BROOD POND: This water is open to children under age 12.
SOUTHWEST AREA
BEAR CANYON: Fishing was slow for all species.
BILL EVANS LAKES: We had no reports from anglers again this week.
CABALLO LAKE: Fishing was rated as slow again this past week. There were a
few white bass and walleye taken by anglers trolling deep running crank
baits. Fishing for catfish was fair for anglers using shrimp, liver and cut
bait.
ELEPHANT BUTTE: Fishing was generally slow for all species. A few striped
bass were taken on umbrella rigs, reef runners and live bait. Some good size
catfish were taken on trotlines baited with shrimp and cut bait. Fishing for
black bass and white bass was slow. A few black bass were taken on drop shot
rigs.
ESCONDIDA LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
GILA RIVER: Water on the main river was flowing at 65cfs as of Monday
morning. We had no reports from anglers this week.
GLENWOOD POND: We had no reports from anglers this week.
LAKE ROBERTS: We had no reports from anglers this week.
PERCHA DAM: Fishing was rated as slow for all species.
QUEMADO LAKE: Trout fishing was slow.
RIO GRANDE: Water flow below Elephant Butte was 2,460cfs on Monday. We had
no reports from anglers this week.
SNOW LAKE: Trout fishing was slow.
SOUTHEAST AREA
BATAAN LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
BONITO LAKE: Fishing was fair using power bait, salmon eggs, spinners and
prop flies under a bubble for trout. The best reports came from anglers
fishing the early morning hours.
BOSQUE REDONDO: We had no reports from anglers this week.
BRANTLEY: Fishing was slow for all species.
CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
GRINDSTONE: Fishing was fair for anglers using worms, spinners, power bait,
salmon eggs and prop flies for trout.
LAKE VAN: We had no reports from anglers this week.
PECOS: Below Sumner Lake, water flow on Monday was 98cfs. Fishing was fair
for anglers using worms and liver for channel catfish.
PERCH LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
RUIDOSO RIVER: Water flow as of Monday was 1.7cfs. Fishing was slow.
SANTA ROSA LAKE: Fishing was rated as slow-to-fair for anglers using tubes,
crank baits and grubs for black bass. Fishing was slow-to-fair using shrimp,
liver and night crawlers in the evening hours for catfish.
SUMNER LAKE: Fishing was fair using worms for bluegills. Fishing for all
other species was slow.
STOCKING REPORT:
Crews stocked 23,654 rainbow trout averaging 10.4 inches in length in the
following waters: BRAZOS RIVER, CANJILON LAKES, CEBOLLA RIVER, CHAMA
RIVER-Above and Below El Vado, COYOTE CREEK, FAWN LAKES, GALLINAS RIVER-Near
Las Vegas, HONDO RIVER, MONASTERY LAKE, MORA-Pecos River Drainage, NUTRIAS
LAKES-aka Trout Lakes, PANCHUELA CREEK, PECOS RIVER-Cowles to Village of
Pecos, RED RIVER-Above& Below Questa, RED RIVER East Fork & West Fork, SAN
ANTONIO RIVER, SAN JUAN-Below Quality, SANTA CRUZ RESERVOIR & SHUREE PONDS.
