BAYOU GRANDE ACCESS TO BE RETRICTED INTERMITTENTLY DURING SALVAGE OPERATION AT BILOXI MARSH W.M.A.

Bayou Grande, within the Biloxi Marsh Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in St. Bernard Parish, will be subject to periodic closure starting Aug. 3.

The intermittent closures, along a portion of the bayou near Lake Borgne, will be necessary to ensure public safety as an inland drilling barge is righted. The barge tipped over as it was being moved out of the path of Hurricane Dennis in early July. All salvage work will take place in daylight hours and should be complete within 30 days. Bayou Grande access will be interrupted during periods when heavy equipment is in use to move the disabled barge.

Parker Drilling Company is coordinating the salvage operation to move the barge out of the WMA, where drilling activity had been authorized by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
