Contact: Marvin McNew J. Edward Roush Lake Reservoir celebrates Smokey Bear’s birthday August 13 On August 13, visitors to J. Edward Roush Lake Reservoir can celebrate Smokey Bear’s 61st birthday with cake, punch, photos and more. The festivities begin at 7 p.m. at Roush Lake’s interpretive shelter. Smokey will greet his guests and will have his picture taken with any well wishers. "Bring your camera, and arrive early," urged Marvin McNew, interpretive naturalist. "Smokey will pose for pictures, but he can’t stay long." The interpretive program shelter is in the Kilsoquah State Recreation Area Campground on State Road 224, southeast of Huntington. Plenty of visitor parking is available. The party is free except for the regular gate fee ($4 per vehicle; $5 for out-of-state vehicles).
