Departure of Lifeguards Will Leave Cape Henlopen State Park's Gordons Pond Beach Unguarded

There will be no lifeguards at Cape Henlopen State Park’s Gordons Pond beach as of Friday, Aug. 5, the state Division of Parks and Recreation has announced.

“It’s that time of year,” according to Park Superintendent Pat Cooper. “Lifeguards are starting to leave for college and sport camps and we won’t have enough to guard every swimming area. Gordons Pond will remain open, but we highly recommended swimming at the guarded beach areas.”

“Unguarded Beach” signs will be posted at all dune crossings, fee booths and other beach access areas.

All other state park beaches – Cape Henlopen's main beach, Delaware Seashore State Park and Fenwick Island State Park – are still being guarded. The Division will announce any changes.

For more information, call the Division’s Operations Section, 302-739-9200.
