MassWildlife News Commonwealth of Massachusetts – Division of Fisheries and Wildlife Wayne F. MacCallum, Director
For Immediate Release
DEER MANAGEMENT TALK AND PERMIT DRAWING Massachusetts deer hunters and other interested citizens are invited to attend this always popular event at the Hawlemont School at 10 School Street in Charlemont on Wednesday, August 3, from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. It will include a Deer Management presentation by MassWildlife’s Deer Project Leader Bill Woytek, followed by the Antlerless Deer Permit Drawing. Hunting seasons, bag limits, and antlerless deer permit allocations are established to achieve population goal densities set by the Fisheries and Wildlife Board. The presentation will explain how these elements are integrated to manage deer populations in Massachusetts. "Traditionally, the permit drawing occurs in an area where there are limited numbers of antlerless deer permits," says Woytek. "Questions, comments and feedback from sportsmen and women as well as other interested citizens are encouraged." Nearly 45,000 permits will be allocated to licensed hunters this year. Results from the Antlerless Deer Drawing will be posted the day after the drawing.
