The Michigan Department of Natural Resources reminds hunters that
July 1 through Aug. 1 is the application period for a public land
antlerless deer license for the 2005 deer hunting season. Public land
antlerless licenses will be available only through the drawing process.
Following the drawing, there may be leftover public land licenses
available in the eight Deer Management Units where bovine TB in the deer
herd has been found. DNR wildlife officials said other than those eight
DMUs, only some western Upper Peninsula DMUs may have leftover licenses
available.
Hunters may apply
online at www.michigan.gov/dnr or at any authorized license agent.
There is a $4 nonrefundable application fee. Drawing results will be
available beginning at 10 a.m. on Sept. 12 at the DNR Web site.
Postcards to successful applicants, who did not apply online, will be
mailed by Sept. 12. All others should check drawing results online after
Sept. 12.
Private land antlerless license will be available over the counter
beginning Aug. 2. There is no minimum acreage requirement or the need
for a tax ID number to purchase a private land antlerless license.
Hunters may purchase one antlerless license per day. For each DMU,
private land antlerless licenses will be available until the DMU quota
is filled. There is no season limit to the number of private land
antlerless licenses an individual hunter may purchase.
Hunters ages 12 to 16 may purchase one antlerless license over the
counter (public or private) until Aug. 1. No application fee or drawing
is required. A youth must appear in person with a parent or guardian to
purchase a junior antlerless deer hunting license.
