Looms Pond State Park Summer Programs Run Gamut From Campground Concerts to Instruction In Massage Techniques


Lums Pond State Park is located on Howell School Road in Bear. The park office number is 302- 368-6989. For more information, call the Nature Center at 302 - 836-1724.


Lums Pond State Park campers can kick off their July 4 holiday Saturday evening with a concert by local musician John Frink.

Other special activities planned for the popular park, located on the north side of the C&D Canal, include fishing lessons, a night hike in search of nocturnal critters, and classes in infant and child CPR and massage techniques for couples.


Holiday Concerts
Saturday, July 2, 6:30 p.m.
John Frink
Bring your lawn chairs, settle the kids and sit back to be entertained by local musician John Frink during a fun-filled evening of music. Meet behind the bathhouse of the campground area.

Fishing Fun
Thursday, July 7, 6:30 p.m.
Kids and parents meet at the Whale Wallow Nature Center for an indoor fishing lesson then venture out into the park to find the best fishing holes. Learn the techniques and ethics of good fishermen. Bring your rod and reel. Some poles will be available for loan, so call to reserve one. A fishing license is required for participants 16 years and older.

Saturday Evenings in the Park
Night Critters
Saturday, July 9, 8 p.m.
Ever wonder why skunks have a white stripe or if bats are really blind? Kids and parents will have a blast playing games that demonstrate the adaptations of nocturnal animals. Afterward, we will take a short night hike to search for these night critters. The cost is $4 per person.

Honey Hives
Sunday, July 10, 2 p.m.
A park naturalist will take youngsters into the world of honeybees. Be on the lookout for the queen bee, as we take a close look into the observation hive for yummy honey, dancing bees, and more! If you miss this Honey Hive program and would like a mini-program, call the Nature Center. The cost is $2 per child.

Massage Series
Mondays, July 11 and 25, 7 p.m.
Bring a towel and a partner and learn some basic massage techniques to unwind after a stressful day. The series will consist of four sessions: lower body, upper body, face and
head, and full body (putting it all together). Each class will begin with a short discussion of massage techniques and practice. The sessions are limited to eight couples to ensure quality class time. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $20 per session or $75 for the series (prices based per couple). Classes continue through August.

Night Concert
Christine Havrilla
Tuesday, July 12, 6:30 p.m.
Bring blanket or chairs, family and friends, and head down to the Lums Pond “beach” behind the bathhouse to enjoy the music of pop-singer and song writer Christine Havrilla. Free.

American Red Cross Child and Infant CPR Training
Saturday, July 16
9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Are you an expectant parent? Do you work with children or infants? Infant and child CPR is a critical skill to have in an unexpected situation. Join us to learn how to save the life of a child. Pre-registration is required. The program fee is $50 per person.

Saturday Evenings in the Park
Owl Prowl
July 16, 8 p.m.
Meet at the Whale Wallow Nature Center to learn about owls and how they are adapted for their nocturnal lifestyle. Following the indoor session, we will go outside in search of these mysterious creatures of the night. Bring sturdy shoes and an adventurous attitude, and we’ll be off for an evening of excitement! Leave your flashlights at home. The cost is $4 per person.
