Beginner Fly Fishing Catches Attention 
at Salato Center

Frankfort, KY -  The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife and Trout Unlimited (TU) are offering fly tying and fly fishing classes for anglers new to the sport Saturday, July 2, at the Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort.

Two workshops are scheduled. “First Cast Fly Tying” from 10 a.m. - noon, is open to any beginner ten and over. Led by TU’s Charlie Downs, first-timers will learn to craft flies they can keep for fishing Kentucky streams. “Basics of Fly Fishing” from 1 - 4 p.m., is designed for anglers interested in fly casting technique. TU will explain and demonstrate different fly fishing styles at the Game Farm Lakes. For participants 16 and over, a valid Kentucky fishing license is required and available at the Salato Center.

The Salato Wildlife Education Center is operated by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife located at the Game Farm three miles west of Frankfort on U.S. 60. Hours of operation: Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 6 p.m. The Center WILL BE open Monday, July 4, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
