Cotter Access on White River will be raised by AGFC

COTTER - An access area on the White River at Cotter, heavily used by trout fisherman year-round, will be reconstructed to improve boat launching capabilities in low water conditions. It will also help maintain safer vehicle parking during periods of high water when all generators are running at Bull Shoals Dam.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, at its June meeting in Flippin, ordered the project to move ahead. Presently during periods of low water flow, it is virtually impossible to launch boats due to the extremely flat grade of the existing launch ramp. On the other hand, when all generators are running at bull Shoals Dam or when water is being released after heavy rains, the parking area can become inundated and customers return to find their vehicles partially submerged in water.  Improvements will solve these problems most of the time, AGFC officials said.

The project will have a construction value of about $205,000. With cooperation from the Baxter County road department personnel and the AGFC construction crew, the actual cost will be approximately $118,000.  Sportfish Restoration Funds will pay 75 percent of that cost.  Marine Fuel Tax funds, which come from state taxes paid on fuel used in boats, will pay the 25 percent state share of the project.
