Comments Sought On Proposed Changes To Dock Rules, Leasing Public Land

DES MOINES-- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is seeking public comment on proposed changes to the state's rules and regulations regarding boat docks on public waters and leasing property on state-owned land.

The DNR has proposed changes to chapter 16 of the Iowa code covering public, commercial and private docks and dock management areas on Iowa's public waters, and chapter 18 regarding leasing state-owned or dedicated public property. The proposed changes were in response to the Iowa Natural Resource Commission's request that the state re-evaluate current dock rules, including commercial dock fees, address boat hoist and dock sprawl, and simplify dock rules and application procedures.

Comments can be submitted by filling out a short survey via the DNR's website at www.iowadnr.com/law/index.html, or by mail to: Director, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Wallace State Office Building, Des Moines, Iowa 50319-0034. Public meetings will also be held at the Wallace State Office Building in Des Moines June 30 at 1:30 p.m. regarding chapter 18, and July 12 at 6 p.m. for chapter 16. Comments will also be accepted at public meetings July 7 at the Clear Lake City Hall community room and July 11 at the Gull Point State Park lodge near Milford. Those meetings will begin at 6 p.m. for Chapter 16, followed by chapter 18 at 8 p.m.
