Patoka Lake Reservoir Hosts Star Party July 2

On Saturday, July 2, visitors to Patoka Lake Reservoir can discover nebulae, star clusters, galaxies and much more, exploring the wonders beyond the earth at the visitor center’s annual astronomy program.

Members of the Evansville, Louisville and Indiana astronomical societies, the Stonebelt Stargazers of Bloomington, and the Western Kentucky Amateur Astronomers will share with participants their knowledge of the universe.

Daytime activities include video presentations and talks indoors at the visitor center from 1-4 p.m. EST ("slow time"), in addition to solar observation at the beach. Evening activities run from 8:30 p.m.-dawn at the beach and will include tips for stargazing, followed by night sky viewing through 25 or more telescopes provided by the societies. Methods will include electronic imaging and large-aperture observing.

Visitors should bring lawn chairs, insect repellent, blankets, family, friends and red lights (if possible). This event is offered free of charge, except for the regular entrance fee of $4 per vehicle ($5 per out-of-state vehicle).

For more information about the interpretive services at Patoka Lake Reservoir, call the visitor center at 812-685-2447.
