Contact: Marvin McNew Roush, Salamonie, Mississinewa host kids’ day camps Kids ages 8-12 can "Take A Walk on the Wild Side" this summer at day camps scheduled for a state reservoir near you. Each weeklong camp session runs from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. daily, and offers fun activity sessions about Indiana wildlife (one theme per day: mammals, reptiles and amphibians, birds, and insects). Camp sessions are as follows:
"Join us to find young insects in the bottom of the pond, and get the chance to pretend you’re a bird and find out how their special beaks and feet work," urged Marvin McNew, Upper Wabash interpretive naturalist. "We’ll make fun critter crafts, including something to take home for the birds in your yard, and much more." The week’s activities are guided by three Department of Natural Resources interpretive naturalists trained to provide a safe and fun environment for learning about the outdoors. A light snack will be provided; but children should bring a lunch with drink each day. Cost is $10 per child per weeklong session. Park entrance fees are waived for those who have registered in advance. Space is limited. Please register in advance by calling 260-468-2127. Parents will be asked to fill out health/participation forms before children may participate. For more information about available programs at the Upper Wabash Reservoirs, please call 260-468-2127, or visit www.dnr.IN.gov/uwis.
