Contact: Haley Samuelson State, local agencies sponsor Father’s Day activities in Tippecanoe Co Dads can make a kite, go fishing, visit an old-time blacksmith, make a candle or enjoy Native American games at several family-friendly Father’s Day celebrations July 19. Four state and local agencies are hosting "Father’s Day – Celebrating Memories," a joint project sponsored by Tippecanoe County Parks and Recreation Department, Prophetstown State Park, Historic Prophetstown and Tippecanoe County Historical Association. All events are conducted continuously throughout the afternoon on the grounds of the respective parks from 1:00p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Tippecanoe County Parks and Recreation Department will offer nature crafts, fishing with Dad, and other family-friendly games. All events will be located at the Wah-ba-shik-a Nature Center at the Tippecanoe Battlefield. Fishing equipment and bait will be provided. Activities at Prophetstown State Park include making a kite with Dad, designing a Father’s Day card, and exploring the prairie on a self-guided hike. Events will take place at the Bobolink Picnic Shelter at Prophetstown State Park. Historic Prophetstown will host live music, a blacksmith creating tools in his shop, and old-fashioned fence painting. Activities can be found on the grounds of the 1920s farmstead at Historic Prophetstown. The Tippecanoe County Historical Association will provide hands-on activities that include Woodland Indian and pioneer toys and games, candle-making, and demonstrations by the Lafayette Lacers. All TCHA events will take place near the Battlefield Museum. Entrance rates for Prophetstown State Park are $4.00 per vehicle ($5.00 per out of state vehicle), and $1.00 for pedestrians 5 years and older. All other venues are free and open to the public.
