Outdoor Skills Workshops Offered This Summer
The 12th annual “Becoming an Outdoors-Woman” workshop, sponsored by
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, will be held July 8-10 at the Lubrecht
Forest east of Missoula.
The hands-on workshop will offer opportunities to build a survival
shelter, cast a fly rod, learn to paddle a canoe and cook up a Dutch-oven
treat. New this year are classes on the plants that Lewis and Clark
discovered in Montana; nature journaling; how to use a global positioning
system, or GPS unit; and going on a mock elk hunt.
The fee is $180 to $215 depending on lodging options, and includes class
instruction and meals. Partial scholarships are available. Space is
available, but the classes are filling quickly.
Teachers who attend the workshop can receive OPI continuing education
credit. The workshop is designed for women, but is open to anyone 18 years
of age and over with a desire to learn new skills.
