Women’s Kayaking Workshop July 16-17 in Bozeman
Women interested in kayaking are invited to a one-day beginning kayak
class sponsored by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. The class will be
offered July 16 and 17 at Hyalite Reservoir, south of Bozeman in the
Gallatin National Forest beginning at 9 a.m. each day.
“Kayaking is one of the fastest growing outdoor sports in the country. This
opportunity to learn kayaking basics will enable participants to be
confident and ready to join in the fun this summer,” said Liz Lodman, FWP
coordinator of the Becoming an Outdoor Woman workshops. The kayak class is
an extension of the BOW program.
Instructors Marc Bell and Carolyn Sime will demonstrate the basic techniques
and equipment needed to kayak on lakes and other flatwater. Topics will
include kayak safety and basic paddle strokes. This class does not cover
whitewater kayaking.
Participants will work with a variety of stable, non-tippy kayaks including
sit-on-top kayaks and sea kayaks. Participants should be able to swim and
will be required to wear their own life jacket or one that will be provided.
Instructors will also assist during a free paddle time in the afternoon.
Participants must be 18 years of age or older.
A registration fee of $15 covers the class and lunch. Space is limited. For
registration information, contact Liz Lodman at FWP, PO Box 200701, Helena
MT 59620, phone 406-444-2615, or by email: llodman@mt.gov
