L.W.F.C. ASKS FOR DUCK STUDY 6/6/2005 The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission passed a resolution at their June 2 meeting to "authorize and encourage" the secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to permit a pilot study on pen-raised mallards. The commission had heard a proposal at their May meeting for a privately funded study potentially to be permitted and overseen by the department. The release of no more than 2,000 individual pen-raised mallards may be permitted under such an action, and would take place on a geographically defined private plot. If LDWF permits the study, the department will be intimately involved in its design and implementation so as to effect strict measures to ensure its biological and scientific integrity.
