June 4 is Youth Fishing Day at Lowndes County WMA

June 02, 2005

The 10th annual Youth Fishing Day at Lowndes County Wildlife Management Area is scheduled for Saturday, June 4, 2005, from 8 until 11 a.m.  The event is co-sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Participation is limited to youth aged 15 and under. The event is free, but all must register on site. This special fishing event provides an opportunity for families and friends to share fun and quality time together while learning about one of our nation's favorite pastimes.

A special area of the lake will be stocked with catfish just for this youth activity. Prizes will be awarded. Anglers should bring their own rod and reel, bait, and stringer. A limited number of loaner rods and reels are available. Free refreshments and hot dogs will be provided for the children.

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama’s natural resources through five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Parks, State Lands, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
