The DOW Looks to Partner with Communities to Improve Motorboat Access

The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) is offering a new opportunity for communities throughout the state to apply for federal grants for projects at motorboat reservoirs as well as lakes and rivers accessible by motorboats.

The Motorboat Colorado Program will serve as a major cooperative effort between the DOW and other public entities to enhance Colorado’s fishing resources at motorboat reservoirs. The DOW believes that as many as five projects may be selected annually to receive $300,000.  The minimum asking amount for projects is $5,000. Applicants must match the amount awarded with non federal cash or in kind services. Projects will be ranked in terms of new and/or improved opportunities for anglers and/or improved fish habitat at motorboat reservoirs. Emphasis will be placed on how well the project benefits meet the long range goals of the DOW.

Every year anglers spend more than $700 million on sport fishing in Colorado and this figure is on the rise. Money to fund this program is generated by federal excise taxes collected on the purchase of motorboat fuels.
