Temporary hunting rules to become permanent; DNR accepting public
comments through June 22 (2005-05-24)
A number of hunting regulations, including many already set forth as
temporary rules, would be permanently added to state law in a process that
will be completed this year, according to the Minnesota Department of
Natural Resources (DNR).
Written public comments will be accepted on the proposed rules through June
22. The proposals cover a variety of areas pertaining to hunting, trapping
and wildlife.
"These rules won't come as a surprise to hunters and trappers. All of the
significant changes have been presented and discussed at previous public
information meetings," said Mike DonCarlos, DNR wildlife program manager.
"This is a procedural step, required by law to make these changes
permanent."
A copy of the proposed rules is published in the State Register and is also
available online at
www.comm.media.state.mn.us/bookstore/state.register.asp.
Among the rules that will be made permanent are:
- provisions for state wildlife management areas and game refuges
- controlled waterfowl hunting zones
- various deer hunting regulations
- moose hunting zones
- raccoon, fox, badger and opossum seasons
- wild turkey seasons, permit areas and use of sighting systems.
The DNR will accept written comments supporting or opposing the rule changes
and requests for a public hearing with an administrative law judge through
4:30 p.m. on June 22.
Comments on rule changes and request for a public hearing may be submitted
to Mike DonCarlos, Minnesota DNR, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MN
55155-4020.
