Women’s Fly-Fishing Workshop May 21/Still a Few Openings

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Division of Fish and Wildlife is offering a basic fly-fishing workshop for beginners and intermediates on Saturday, May 21. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Aquatic Resources Education Center in Smyrna, Del. on Route. 9.

This workshop is designed to introduce and teach women about the skills, supplies and equipment needed to fly-fish in Delaware. “This workshop is perfect for women who would like to fish but don’t want to deal with worms,” said Trina Cale-Rosario, workshop coordinator.

Flies and rods will be provided or women can bring their own. Attendees are asked to bring their own bag lunch, but snacks and refreshments are provided.

The morning session, 9 am -12 p.m., will be geared toward beginners. Guest trainers, and experts in women’s fly-fishing, Lisa Doricchi and Susan Eggert, will teach the basics of fly fishing, such as putting the equipment together. The afternoon session, 1-3 pm, is geared toward intermediates and those who were in the morning sessions. The afternoon session will be spent with the trainers practicing fly-fishing in the freshwater ponds of the Aquatic Resources Education Center and working on things like improving casting.

For more information or to register for the workshop, please call Trina Cale-Rosario at (302) 653-2882 or e-mail: trina.rosario@state.de.us
