Fishing Fun:

Annual Youth Fishing Derby to be held at Raccoon State Recreation Area and Historic Mansfield Roller Mill.

Rockville and Mansfield, IN. – Raccoon State Recreation Area and Historic Mansfield Roller Mill host a Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday June 11th from 8:30 am to 12 pm. In addition to the fishing contests other activities such as fish printing are available. Light refreshments are provided.

Contests are held for the longest fish, biggest (by weight) and most fish caught. Prizes are awarded in three age categories, 2-5, 6-10 and 11-14. Participant check-in begins at 8:30 am and the fishing contests begin promptly at 9 am. The events are at the South Shelter near the beach at Raccoon SRA and below the dam at Mansfield Mill. Pre-registration by June 10th is required. Stop by the property office at Raccoon SRA or call 765-344-1412 to register.

This Youth Fishing Derby is one of several events taking place throughout the state as part of Indiana’s Free Fishing Weekend June 11-12. Adults do not need a license to fish on Indiana’s public waters for those two days; children under 17 don’t need a license to fish at any time.

Historic Mansfield Roller Mill, part of the State Park and Reservoirs Division of the DNR and managed by Raccoon State Recreation Area, is located six miles south of State Road 36, off Indiana Road 59. Raccoon State Recreation area is on State Road 36 in Parke and Putnam counties in west central Indiana, 50 miles west of Indianapolis and 35 miles northeast of Terre Haute.
