Big Game License Allocation Group Identifies Issues to Review
The Big Game License Allocation Working Group met
recently in Salida and made headway in identifying concerns with the current
license allocation procedures in Colorado.
The committee has identified a number of issues for discussion and
resolution. Some of those include the percentage of licenses issued to
residents versus nonresidents, youth and landowner licensing, auction and
raffle licensing and concerns related to improving the preference point
system.
Minutes from the meeting and additional information can be found on the
Division of Wildlife (DOW) Web site at:
http://wildlife.state.co.us/hunt/biggame/license_allocation/.
This was the second meeting of the group which is working to evaluate the
big game license allocation process for deer, elk and pronghorn and make
recommendations to the Director of the DOW and the Colorado Wildlife
Commission.
There are two more meetings of the group scheduled. The next meeting will
take place from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 13 and from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on
May 14 at the community center in Buena Vista at 715 East Main Street in the
Pinion Room.
The DOW values public input and interest in the proceedings. Public comment
throughout the proceedings will be accepted through e-mail at:
licenseallocation.wildlife@state.co.us. There may also be some time
at the end of each meeting for public comment.
Once the working group meetings are finished, there will be a series of
eight meetings, in July and August, designated for public comment on any
proposed recommendations. These meetings will take place throughout the
state. Any proposals the committee develops will also need to be approved by
the Wildlife Commission. Public comment is always accepted and encouraged at
commission meetings. Due to the minimal number of committee meetings and the
lack of time to develop proposals, the DOW wants to encourage as much public
comment as possible be submitted through e-mail, through the committee
representatives, and during the public input meetings designated for that
purpose.
