Memorial Day Weekend Campsites Still
Available in SD State Parks
PIERRE, S.D. – Campers seeking sites for Memorial Day weekend should note
that holiday-weekend opportunities still exist in state park campgrounds
across South Dakota, according to Game, Fish and Parks officials.
"Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest times of the
year for camping, and campgrounds fill up fast," said Doug Hofer, state
parks director. "However, there is still time to reserve one of the many
remaining campsites."
As of May 6, sites were still available at the following
parks:
 | Angostura Recreation Area near Hot Springs. |
 | Big Sioux Recreation Area near Brandon. |
 | Cow Creek Recreation Area near Pierre. |
 | Custer State Park near Custer. |
 | Farm Island Recreation Area near Pierre. |
 | Indian Creek Recreation Area near Mobridge. |
 | Platte Creek Recreation Area near Platte. |
 | Roy Lake State Park near Lake City. |
 | Swan Creek Recreation Area near Akaska. |
 | Union Grove State Park near Beresford. |
 | West Whitlock Recreation Area near Gettysburg.

 | West Pollock Recreation Area near Pollock. |
Horse campsites are available at:
 | Lewis and Clark Recreation Area near Yankton.

 | Oakwood Lakes State Park near Bruce. |
 | Pease Creek Recreation Area near Lake Andes.
|
 | Pelican Lake Recreation Area near Watertown.
|
 | Union Grove State Park near Beresford. |

Reservations for Memorial Day weekend can be made until 10 p.m. on
Wednesday, May 25, through
www.CampSD.com
or by calling 1-800-710-CAMP (2267). On Thursday, May 26, all sites not
reserved become available on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition, a number of campgrounds offer all sites as
first-come, first-served. These include:
 | Bear Butte near Sturgis (including the horse camp).

 | Burke Lake near Burke. |
 | Lake Hiddenwood near Selby. |
 | Little Moreau near Timber Lake. |
 | Llewellyn Johns near Lemmon. |
 | North Wheeler near Platte. |
 | Okobojo Point near Pierre. |
The following parks have a portion of sites available on a first-come
basis:
 | Buryanek near Platte. |
 | Cow Creek near Pierre. |
 | Lake Louise near Miller. |
 | Lewis and Clark near Yankton. |
 | Center Lake, Grace Coolidge, French Creek Horse Camp,
and Stockade Lake South campgrounds in Custer State Park near Custer.
