The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has closed an
Armstrong County boat access area damaged last fall in flooding
associated with Hurricane Ivan. The Freeport Access Area in Armstrong
County will be not be available for public use until repairs can be made
at the site mid-summer.
Shortly after the site was damaged, Freeport Borough crews were able
to make temporary repairs to keep the access open on an interim basis.
However, the boat launch has further deteriorated recently and is not
longer suitable for use. The Commission is projecting that it may begin
permanent repairs to the Freeport Access Area sometime in July, when the
Commonwealth’s new fiscal year begins. As with any construction work,
the actual timeline for the project is weather dependant.
Freeport Access is located along 1st & High Street in the town of
Freeport and provides free boating and fishing access to Buffalo Creek.
Boaters and anglers looking for alternative launch sites can visit
the “County
Guides” section of the PFBC’s web site.
