Volunteers Wanted for May 21 Inland Bays Cleanup/Cleanup Start of Waterway Watch Program in Sussex County

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Division of Fish and Wildlife is holding its first Inland Bays Cleanup on Saturday, May 21. The cleanup will last from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and will be held rain or shine. There is still room for 40 more volunteers. Please call (302) 856-5644 or 856-2656, to volunteer. Volunteers are asked to meet at Massey’s Landing to receive their cleanup location.

This event is being held in collaboration with the Center for the Inland Bays Water Use Plan Group. Other sponsors include the Delaware Solid Waste Authority, who is donating the trash bags and the Blue Hen Buzzards and Representative John Atkins, who are donating a dumpster and the landfill fees. The Delaware Department of Corrections is sending two crews to help with the cleanup and Dover Air Force Base is also volunteering some crews to help out.

The cleanup will start the Waterway Watch Program in Sussex County, which is modeled after the Adopt a Highway program. Volunteers will select a section of Delaware’s Inland Bays which they will commit to help keep clean. The volunteers will also provide information to boaters and fishermen.
