Fort Trumbull State Park to Temporarily Close Beginning March 30, 2005

Park To Be Closed Until April 10, 2005 To Support Federal Anti-Terrorism Exercise

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) today announced that Fort Trumbull State Park in New London will be closed to the public from 8:00 AM on March 30, 2005 through sunset on April 10, 2005. The closing affects the entire Park, including the fishing pier and the fisherman’s entrance.

The park is being closed to support the federal anti-terrorism exercise, "TOPOFF," which will be conducted in New London from April 4, 2005 through April 7, 2005. TOPOFF, which stands for "Top Officials," is a Congressionally mandated exercise designed to strengthen the nation’s capacity to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from large-scale terrorist attacks involving weapons of mass destruction (WMDs).
