New Water Proof Licenses And Tags For 2005 License Year

Bear hunters will be the first to notice Montana’s new waterproof carcass tags when they purchase hunting licenses via Montana Fish, Wildlife & Park’s Automated Licensing System (ALS) this spring.

In response to requests to improve the size and   durability of Montana’s hunting and fishing licenses, FWP now uses a new, flexible water proof paper for all licenses purchased over-the- counter.

"Many hunters and license providers were frustrated by the bulky size of the old carcass tags," said Hank Worsech, chief of FWP’s Licensing Bureau. "We looked into what was on the market and found a way to offer this new waterproof tag that fits easily in a wallet."

Licenses or carcass tags for black bear, deer, elk, antelope, mountain lion and turkey, also have new validation requirements.   To properly validate a harvest, hunters must cut out two digits for the day of the kill--a 0, 1, 2,or 3 needs to be cut out for the first digit of the day of the kill and a 0 through 9 for the second digit.   Validation of the month is similar to previous tags.   Click to see example.

Worsech said the new carcass tags are now available at all license providers and he reminded spring black bear hunters that they need to purchase their licenses before April 14 if they intend to hunt during the spring black bear season.
