Deer, Elk, Antelope Permit Applications Accepted April 11 - May 2 - Tom Keith

Lincoln, Neb. – The application period when Nebraska hunters may apply for November firearm deer season draw units, and resident hunting or resident landowner elk and antelope permits will begin at 1 p.m. CST, April 11. Applications must be received by 5 p.m., May 2 if submitted by mail or in person at the Commissions Lincoln office. Online applications must be made by midnight, May 2.

Bob Zegar, assistant administrator of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commissions Budget and Fiscal Divisions permit section, recommends hunters read the 2005 Nebraska Big Game Guide before applying for a permit. “There is a lot of new information in the big game guide,” Zegar said.”Reading it before applying will save confusion and will help the applicant apply for the correct permit.”

Zegar said deer permit applicants that were not issued a permit for any unit designated as a deer “Draw” unit in the previous year will be given preference.

There are six deer “Draw” units this year. They are Blue Northwest, Blue Southeast, Elkhorn, Republican, Statewide Buck Only, and DeSoto December Muzzleloader.

The 2005 Nebraska Big Game Guide will be available in early April from Commission offices and permit agents across the state.
