JONESBORO
- Gov. Mike Huckabee recently announced that the Arkansas Game and Fish
Foundation is among 20 organizations and communities selected to receive
grants for events or programs during Heritage Month, sponsored each year
in May by the Department of Arkansas Heritage.
Funded events will reflect this year's theme, Arkansas Gardens: The
Roots of Our Heritage, a celebration of the many types of gardens
that make up the Arkansas landscape. Heritage Month grants are supported
each year with $50,000 from the 1/8th-Cent Conservation Sales
Tax. The Foundation will receive $4,731 for a program series to include
guest speakers and self-guided tours at the Forrest L. Wood Crowley's
Ridge Nature Center in Jonesboro.
"Our state is known for its beautiful gardens and natural areas,"
Huckabee said. "I hope all Arkansans will take part in these Heritage
Month events. They will gain a new appreciation for what we have in
Arkansas."
The Department of Arkansas Heritage, through the work of its seven
agencies, seeks to recognize the state's heritage and to enhance
Arkansans' quality of life through the discovery, preservation and
presentation of the state's natural, cultural and historic resources.
The agencies are Arkansas Arts Council, Arkansas Historic Preservation
Program, Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, Delta Cultural Center in
Helena, Historic Arkansas Museum, Mosaic Templars Cultural Center and
Old State House Museum. |
