Openings Remain For DNR

Openings still remain for the DNR’s newest Project WILD workshop. Called "Flying Wild," the workshop will be held March 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge. It is open to all Hoosier environmental educators and bird enthusiasts.

Sponsored by the Environmental Education Association of Indiana, the DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife and the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge, "Flying WILD" combines a child’s natural fascination for birds with the fun of a festival.

The workshop cost is $15 for Environmental Education Association of Indiana members and $30 for non-members. The registration fee includes a completion certificate, "Flying WILD" guide, snacks, and beverages. Non-members will receive association membership for the rest of 2005 as a part of their registration.

The workshop prepares schools, youth organizations, and communities to celebrate and learn about birds in the setting of a bird festival. Activity guides and a support network will assist planners with festival formats and guidelines, activities that teach about birds and background information on bird conservation. Registration must be received by the DNR by March 16.

Project WILD, sponsored by the DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife, is a supplementary environmental/conservation education program emphasizing wildlife. The program's innovative, hands-on activities are designed for students in kindergarten through grade 12.

Project WILD has trained more than 25,000 educators who then assist learners of any age develop the awareness, knowledge, skills and commitment to make informed decisions and act responsibly concerning wildlife and the environment.
