Contact: Randall Lehman and Michael Burrows Volunteers needed at Limberlost historic site Limberlost State Historic Site needs volunteers to give guided tours, help in the gift shop, keep the flower gardens beautiful, and help during special events. Volunteers also are needed to help with various Limberlost wetland projects: plant trees and wildflowers, bird watch, pick-up litter, help with hiking trail maintenance, and help with special events. Persons interested in being a volunteer should visit Limberlost Saturday, March 19 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friends of the Limberlost and site staff will be available to explain volunteer opportunities. Volunteers who can offer a couple of hours everyday or only a couple of hours a month are welcome. Registering is easy and costs nothing. A training program for those interested in being a tour guide is provided. Volunteers of all ages are welcome but a parent or guardian must accompany children under 13. Limberlost State Historic Site is a house museum, the home of Indiana author and naturalist Gene Stratton-Porter from 1895-1913. The Limberlost swamp was her playground, laboratory, inspiration, and the subject of her acclaimed books and photographs. The DNR Division of Nature Preserves is restoring more than 1,000 acres of Limberlost wetlands. Limberlost State Historic Site is part of the DNR’s Division of State Museums and Historic Sites with 15 sites throughout the state. Limberlost is located at 200 E. Sixth St., Geneva, IN. The site is currently closed for the winter, but will reopen in April. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, and closed on Monday and Tuesday.
