Delaware Trout Stamp, Duck Stamp Contests Are March 9

WHAT: Judging of competition to choose artwork for the 2005 Delaware Duck Stamp, the second in the special five-year lighthouse series, and for the 2006 Delaware Trout Stamp. There are 33 entries of common mergansers and the Fenwick Island Lighthouse – seven from Delaware artists and 26 representing 19 other states. There are 26 entries of rainbow, brown or brook trout – three from Delaware and 23 from 14 other states. The public is invited to watch the judging.

WHEN: Trout stamp judging begins at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, to be followed by judging of the 26th annual duck stamp contest at approximately 11 a.m.

WHERE: Delaware Agriculture Museum, Route 13 north of Dover.

WHO: Sponsored by the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife.

The Division of Fish and Wildlife, in partnership with Ducks Unlimited, began the duck stamp and print program in 1980 to raise funds for waterfowl conservation, including acquiring and improving the wetland habitats that are vital for the survival of migratory waterfowl. To date, almost $2 million has been raised.

Duck stamps are required in Delaware when hunting migratory waterfowl species. They will go on sale July 1 at the Division of Fish and Wildlife offices in Dover, at license agents throughout the state or online at www.dnrec.state.de.us/fw. Collector stamps and prints are sold only at the Division’s administrative offices.
