Public Workshop on Draft Regulations Governing Beach
Protection and the Use of Beaches March 16
The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control,
Shoreline and Waterway Management Section will a Public Workshop regarding
the draft "Regulations Governing Beach Protection and the Use of Beaches,"
at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 16 at City Hall, 229 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth
Beach. Construction standards are now included in the draft regulations to
help reduce property damage during storms and new building line maps will be
available for viewing at the workshops.
Construction standards to be discussed include:
• Piling depths needed for homes in the Beach and Erosion zones
• Elevation requirements for homes and utilities
• Requirements for parking lots, driveways and other ground level surfaces
Other issues to be discussed include:
• Prohibited construction activities in the dune area
• Permitted construction activities behind the dune
• Remapping of the DNREC Building Line

Copies of the draft regulations are available by request. Statements and
testimony may be presented either orally or in writing at the workshop. It
is requested that those interested in presenting statements at the workshop
