DEP Sponsoring Safe Paddling Event

The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), in cooperation with ConnYak, the Connecticut Appalachian Mountain Club, the University of Connecticut, and the US Coast Guard, is presenting an afternoon of safe paddling demonstrations and providing information on safe enjoyment of paddling activities. The session will be held on Sunday, March 6th at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium (swimming pool) on UConn’s Storrs Campus (adjacent to Gampel Pavilion) from noon to 4 p.m.

The event is free of charge and will feature many topics including paddling with children, self-rescue, choosing the right craft and paddlers etiquette. Professionals from the American Red Cross, US Coast Guard and a variety of representatives from the paddling industry and DEP Boating Division will be on hand to answer any questions.
