PIERRE, S.D. – The Department of Game, Fish and Parks is in the process of completing the initial drawing for spring turkey licenses and results should be available on March 4.

Hunters who applied in the initial drawing for a Prairie Turkey license may access the GFP website (www.sdgfp.info) and go to the link on "Licenses and Reservations." There is a link to "Check License Drawing Success."

Anyone who does not already have a 2005 prairie spring turkey license is now eligible to apply in the second drawing for any licenses left after the initial drawing. The second drawing deadline is March 11 for paper applications and March 14 for online applications. A list of leftover licenses will be posted under the "Licenses and Reservations" link on the GFP website.

Each applicant is entitled to one Black Hills spring turkey license and one archery spring turkey license, so there is no actual drawing for these permits. They will be processed and mailed as part of the regular drawing process. Those planning to hunt the Black Hills or archery seasons are reminded to submit applications well in advance of their hunt to allow time for processing and mailing of the permits back to them.
