Ice on Cave Lake is Unsafe

The Nevada Department of Wildlife and Nevada Division of State Parks are recommending everyone stay off of the ice at Cave Lake State Park for safety reasons.

Due to safety concerns with the dam at Cave Lake, the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) released two feet of water in preparation of the anticipated snowmelt. With the quick drop in the water level, the ice that covers the lake is now suspect and the public is being advised not to venture onto it.

The dam is scheduled for reconstruction sometime within the next couple of years to alleviate existing problems.

For more information, you may call Joe Doucette at NDOW, (775) 777-2305 or Steve Weaver at State Parks at (775) 728-4467.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife is the state agency responsible for the restoration, protection and management of fish and wildlife resources, and the promotion of boating safety on Nevada’s waters. Wildlife offices are located in Las Vegas, Henderson, Winnemucca, Fallon, Elko, and Reno. For more information, contact the agency web site at www.ndow.org.
